TANDA TULA
who we are

WE ARE THE SAME, YET REFINED...
Welcome to Tanda Tula Lodge, where guests are welcomed into an extraordinary haven nestled in the heart of the Timbavati Game Reserve. Established in 1978, the lodge has a rich history spanning 44 years, marked by continual evolution and a profound commitment to its African heritage. Today, the lodge stands as a testament to a harmonious fusion of modern luxury, drawing inspiration from Africa and facilitated by Africans, with co- ownership by Africans.
Recognized as an architectural masterpiece, Tanda Tula skillfully captures the essence of luxury while maintaining an authentic connection to its wild surroundings. The integration of contemporary design and traditional Tsonga influences within the lodge creates a captivating atmosphere that is respectful to the homage of the original custodians of the land and the future of the reserve.
The camp’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its energy-efficient practices, relying on solar power and adopting water-wise initiatives. Beyond providing a place to stay, Tanda Tula stands out for offering an environmentally conscious safari experience that harmonizes with the natural wonders that envelop its surroundings.
The team at Tanda Tula deserves accolades for their exceptional service, which goes beyond mere professionalism to embrace a genuine warmth that makes guests feel right at home. Each member of the team contributes to an atmosphere that goes beyond traditional hospitality, creating an experience where visitors are not just guests but valued members of a welcoming family.
Nestled amongst the banks of the Nhlaralumi River in South Africa’s Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, lies the luxurious Tanda Tula.

THE SAFARI CAMPÂ
From secluded hideaways to an inviting library and an open-air bar, the camp boasts spaces designed for both communal gatherings and quiet solitude. The spaces have been designed in such a way that even if you are indoors unwinding by a crackling fire, you are still able to experience the sounds of the bush.
Featuring nine hybrid canvas and glass suites, each unit unfolds against the picturesque backdrop of the Nhlaralumi River, offering guests a captivating yet tranquil immersion into the bushveld. The front of each suite features sliding glass doors and canvas sliding walls that usher in abundant natural light. Outdoor covered decks and private plunge pools, adorned with sunken bench seating, provide idyllic spaces for dining, relaxation, and an intimate connection with nature.
The ethos of Tanda Tula goes beyond just catering to guests; it extends to a purpose deeply rooted in preserving the bush and fostering community well-being. The Tanda Tula Foundation, serves as a conduit to translate the focus on guest experience into meaningful impacts for the local community. The foundation channels resources into the education of young individuals and it prioritizes the development of team members by providing upskilling opportunities.. The foundation actively contributes to the growth of small businesses and non-governmental organizations that align with the ethical principles of Tanda Tula.
According to Nina Scott, Tanda Tula Director, the foundation is not merely about ‘doing work in the community’ but rather ensuring that individuals have the means to access education and resources, empowering them to transform their own lives.
This property has genuinely captured the essence of the bush, and the attention to detail is felt from the instant you arrive until the lasting memories you take away.
